The Significance of Productivity-Focused Meaningful Use
We began our EHR search more than 3 years ago and quickly identified SRS as an EHR leader in North Carolina for high-volume orthopaedic practices. Additionally, we evaluated other EHRs and their procedures for qualifying for the government-funded EHR incentives. Each product we researched paled in comparison with SRS in terms of ease of use and maintaining patient volume. After researching virtually every major vendor in the EHR market, it became clear that for our orthopaedic specialty, SRS stood head and shoulders above the competition.
We purposely waited for a “last minute” implementation to squeeze in our 90-day reporting period for Stage 1 of meaningful use in 2012. From day 1 to the last day of our reporting period, we had no issues collecting the necessary data for meaningful use and meeting the Stage 1 thresholds. All of our eligible providers successfully attested in the beginning of January 2013. By maintaining the focus on productivity, SRS had made it easier for high-performance specialty groups like ours to take advantage of the EHR incentive program!
Usability beyond Meaningful Use
The most important factors in choosing the SRS EHR were maintaining physician productivity and avoiding disruption to our high-volume patient flow. The last thing we wanted was our highest-paid personnel (the physicians) doing extensive data entry. With SRS, this is not an issue. The physicians have continued to dictate just as they have been accustomed. We did not decrease our patient scheduling. With the support of our knowledgeable and courteous SRS implementation specialist, we had our 2 full-time locations up in the first week and our satellite office up shortly thereafter. The system required less than 2 hours of training for both staff and providers before we were up and running.
The SRS team worked extremely well with our own IT team to make our transition to the SRS EHR a smooth one. They also provided excellent recommendations on our hardware needs and knew exactly what was required to keep our fast-paced practice running efficiently and effectively. Additionally, the interface with our practice management system was seamless, making it very easy for our staff to move between the 2 solutions.
Overall, we are very satisfied with the SRS EHR—it not only helps us provide first-class care to all of our patients now, but we firmly believe it will continue to do so in the future.
